Farmington's Famous Vineyards

Missouri is home to many vineyards and, in fact, is ranked the 11th top wine producer in the nation. Many of these vineyards are located in Farmington Missouri and its neighboring towns. Below is a sampling of the excellent vineyards located in that region.

Sand Creek Vineyard, established in 2002, is the newest family owned and operated vineyard in Farmington. They offer a variety of fine wines including dry red, semi sweet, sweet red, and sweet white. Visitors can attend wine tastings and can have picnics on the veranda while enjoying the scenic view of the rolling hills. Visitors can also enjoy live entertainment on the weekends.

Chaumette Vineyards and Winery, established in 1990 by Hank and Jackie Johnson, is located in the Ozark Mountain American Viticultural area in Ste. Genevieve. It sits on 310 acres with 30 acres of grapevines. The winery produces more than a dozen handcrafted, award-winning wines including dry, semi dry and semi sweet. Their wine tasting room is open year round. Visitors can enjoy a spa, a pool, and a restaurant as well as outdoor entertainment during the warmer months of the year. They also have a private villa where guests can stay overnight.

Twin Oaks Vineyard and Winery is owned and operated by the Hutson family in Farmington. They have spent years cultivating their 180-acre farm, which includes 25 acres of vineyard. They made their dream come true when, in 2006, they began producing their own commercial wine. Twin Oaks offers award-winning wines including dry, semi sweet and sweet. They also offer two specialty wines, Royal Ruby and Hutson Reserve. The Royal Ruby exudes the aromas of cherries, raspberries, and spiced fruitcake. The Hutson Reserve exudes the aromas of black cherries, cinnamon and smoky vanilla oak. Twin Oaks Vineyard and Winery offers wine tasting, tours, and lunch under the 350-400 year old oaks. They also have a full bar and live entertainment from April through October.

The St. Francois Winery is located in the St. Francois Mountain Region in Park Hills, Missouri. The winery evolved from their grapevine nursery business. St. Francois sells their plants, rootings and cuttings from their nursery to other wineries everywhere. Their actual winery began production in 2005. It produces fine, handcrafted wines including dry, semi dry and sweet. They offer wine tasting and an outdoor patio with a beautiful view of their vineyards. Visitors, upon request, can tour the grapevine nursery, the vineyards, or the winery operation.

There are more than 10 wineries located within a 30-mile radius of Farmington. Visitors can sample the wineries private label wines, learn more about the wine industry and how wine is made, and enjoy the scenic countryside.
